Simultaneous interpreting requires an exceptional level of linguistic expertise, the ability to think on your feet even in heated or sensitive situations, and a level of intuition enabling us to “read” the speakers’ intentions and accurately relay them when there are no direct, word-for-word interpretations. Simultaneous interpretation can also be “whisper interpretation”, whereby an interpreter sits right next to only one or two participants to interpret for them in a low voice.
Consecutive interpreting takes more time, as the spoken word is interpreted in a few sentences, from one language to another; then, the process repeats. Thus, consecutive interpreting is used most often in smaller group formats, for more intimate business negotiations, dinners, and casual or social events
