Chang-Castillo and Associates abides by all international standards in conference interpretation in both the hiring of professional conference interpreters and in the quality of simultaneous conference interpretation equipment provided at our assignments.

Simultaneous Interpretation is our most frequently used service. Interpreters work in teams in soundproof booths, and interpret at the same time as the speaker presents. Participants wear headsets and listen to the interpretation in their own language in real time. Simultaneous interpretation is sometimes referred to as “simultaneous translation”, or “UN-style interpreting.” It is used at international conferences and is ideal for multilingual seminars, workshops, business meetings and training courses.

Consecutive interpretation is used for small discussion groups and business negotiations. Interpreters wait for the speaker to finish a speech or statement, and then convey what the speaker communicated in the target language. This allows for a more personal communication approach, and is very useful in meetings where dialogue is necessary.

Qualified Interpreters

All our professionals are high-level simultaneous conference interpreters and must hold at least two of the following credentials to work with us:

MA or PhD in the field of Conference Interpretation from a recognized interpretation school.
Membership in AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters), which is only available via a peer review process.
Membership in TAALS (The American Association of Language Specialists), also only available via a peer review process.
At least five years of conference interpreting experience and proof of at least 200 days of simultaneous or consecutive conference interpretation level work.
Accreditation or Certification with one or more of the following institutions:

United Nations
Federal Government of Canada (Conference level)
European Union (Directorate General for Interpretation) (SCIC)
US Department of State (Conference level)
NAATI Level 5, Conference Senior Interpreter (Australia)

A note on quality and expertise

Our conference interpreters are not court interpreters.

Court certification is for court assignments only. Court interpreters use a different terminology set and style that are not appropriate for a high level event such as yours – and the courtroom work setting is completely different. Many court interpreters may present themselves as conference interpreters, but they do not have the skills nor credentials to work as such. In contrast, our conference interpreters regularly work with international organizations such as the United Nations family of agencies, and at events such as G-8/G-20 summits, the Olympic Games, and presidential and ministerial meetings. We guarantee that we provide our clients the very best team possible with the most experience, talent, training, and expertise on the market. Our main objective is to serve you, our customer, with the highest level of interpretation proficiency and expertise to ensure the success of your event.
